Yep, Ela cut his hair today. Here's the outcome.

The mandatory before picture.

Would you like a cup of hair with that?

The final result...

From the front...

We brought Mojo to the Portland farmer's market today. We rode the Max (light rail) in, which was a half-hour trip downtown. Mojo didn't like it much and was whining, mainly because he was in the bag the whole trip. The Max is nice (no vomiting), but a car is more convenient and cheaper.

The farmers market was fun! They had lots of stalls, lots of samples, and Mojo got lots of treats. There were cheese chunks, lamb, some beef brisket, and more cheese. He did really well walking through crowds, and even said hello to some of the other dogs.

When it comes to dogs, Mojo seems to be OK with dogs that aren't overly aggressive. Overly aggressive means rushing at him, or moving quickly towards his behind. He's OK with the "let's sniff each other and see" dogs, and tends to shy away from the aggressive ones.

He was a hit as usual, and lots of people pet him & gave him the attention he loves :)

Then we tried to get into the art fair, which was unfortunately a no-dog event. Which was kind of OK, since Mojo was getting kind of hot. We had him in the bag at that point, which probably was even hotter.

One interesting thing that happened: the director of the event came over & told us that bagged dogs weren't allowed either. Oh well. But she had a Hav as well, a small one. And she said something interesting: "looks like you've got one of the big ones."

It sounds like there are two specific genres of Havs, small ones and big ones. There might be a "small" class, which is breed-standard size: 9-13lbs. Then there are the bigger ones, which are maybe 18lbs? I'll ask on the Hav list & see.

Anyway, Mojo slept on the way home, then Ela gave him a haircut. Pictures of the new 'do will be up later as time permits.

Here's Mojo on the slide:

Another bath today. It's been a while, plus his birthday dinner yesterday (ribs again) got his coat oily.

He looks like a frog, doesn't he?

Two more pictures of Mojo in various stages of drying.

Done! And the camera really can focus on him. But the color is still kinda weird...have to figure out the modes, etc someday.

Mojo's official name is now "C-Brese's Oregon Cloudscape."

That was easy, and has a much nicer ring than, say, "C-Brese's flatulent pillow."

We noticed an interesting thing about his new teeth. A few days ago he had one tooth behind another on his upper jaw. Yesterday all his teeth were lined up. I didn't realize teeth could move around that much.

He's got 6 on top, 3 on the bottom. Those are front teeth, the teeth between the canines (the long, fanglike teeth).

Ela's going to give him a haircut sometime. Disaster in the making? Or new styllish-looking dog? Tune in for the next set of pictures.

A couple of new pictures...

From right in front of him.

On my desk again.

We got Mojo a hump-toy, so he doesn't hump our legs. His current toys (the beagle & beaver) aren't quite big enough.

This new toy's name is 'potato', because it's a word that people are unlikely to use in real life as the name of their dog. If we say "go get the potato" we're pretty sure Mojo won't go off and start humping (or going to get) some random dog.

Yep, it worked!

Mojo striking a dignified pose.

Weighed Mojo this morning just for kicks, and he's 9.6lbs. That's about 9lbs, 9oz. So he's slowing down? At 1oz/day he should have been, uh, 10lbs 3oz by now. Instead, he's gone down to 1/3 of an ounce/day. I wonder when that changed?

Maybe this means he'll come in at the 14lb range?

More pictures! We got an interim camera, so we went crazy with the camera. It (Canon A75) can focus in on him, which is a dramatic improvement over the three-year-old Kodak. Hopefully the A85/A90 will be better, and out in the next few months.

The classic dog-at-rest pose.

Right after a walk. To look at him, you'd think it was 100 outside (it was only 70). What did these dogs do in Cuba, sit by the air conditioner all day?

Ela was trying out new hairstyles and hair accessories. This didn't work out too well.

This didn't work out either, but it was much funnier! It looks like we removed the top half of his head!

Ridiculous. Poor Mojo!

This hair clip looks better, but it still isn't as nice as no clip at all. It actually looks like someone stapled an object to his head.

For some reason, it hit me: wet food gives Mojo gas. Stopping the wet food stopped his farting. So it's goodbye wet food, at least for now.

Ela also had an unfortunate revelation this morning: just like Mojo occasionallly wipes his face on the carpet after eating, he also may be wiping his butt on the carpet after pooing. We might be investing in a gallon or two of "Nature's Miracle"...and renting a carpet steamer. Yuck.

My desk is Mojo's favorite resting place during the day, and apparently my arm is the perfect height for his head to rest on. It's hard to get work done with a dog on your desk, and it's even harder when his head is draped across your forearm.

Oh, a side note. In the picture of Mojo's jaw, you might have noticed a screwdriver. Yep, that's become one of his chew toys. The handle is hard plastic, and it fits right in his mouth. Yum!

I've been looking for something made of silicone, like those pot-holders they have now. Mojo chews on that, and doesn't leave a mark. Unfortunately I haven't found anything besides kitchen stuff (pot holders and an oven mitt). I got a little bowl thing that I thought was silicone, but after Mojo chewed it up I discovered it was textured plastic.

Mojo's been humping things on and off since Hilton Head. Soon, Mojo will be a male no more. He'll be 5 months on thursday, which means it's almost time to schedule the last trip to the vet. Poor Mojo, he won't know what's happened until it's too late.

He's starting to learn to stay more. Last night we were upstairs, and I told him to stay. By the time I got downstairs Mojo had gotten up and come down after me, just in time to see me put back the piece of beef jerky. Hah! So we went back upstairs and did it again. Ela said it was really funny watching him, because she could see his eyes looking around and his ears listening to my progress. His brain was thinking "if I stay, I might get a beef jerky. But what is he doing down there? I'll wait. Is he back yet?"

After a few minutes I was back upstairs with a chunk of beef jerky. And hopefully Mojo learned that 'stay' can be a good thing to do! He was supposed to have learned that already, but of course, he obeys when it suits him :)

Some of his teeth have gone missing!

This is what it looks like when your dog is peering over your footboard at you.

We finally went to Petsmart to get our graduation mortarbord, much to Mojo's dismay.

Mojo's been biting more often these days, and we figured out why. He's teething! Ela looked in his mouth tonight, and he's missing a whole bunch of teeth! Almost all the ones from the front bottom are gone, and a lot of the ones on top. And amazingly enough, we found one! Unbelievable!

We got our limited registration form in the mail, so now we have to decide what his 'official' name'll be. Maybe "C-Brese's Master of Time and Space?" Or "C-Brese's I Am The Keymaster?"

Hmmm.

We got him a can of Newman's Own dog food the other day, since the other dog food ran out. After one small finger-bowl of it, Newman is out the door. For some reason Newman's Own made is pee stink. It didn't just smell bad, it smelled bad from 30 feet away.

Mojo finally figured out how to jump onto our bed last night!

He's got a beanbag chair at the foot of our bed. Every once in a while he's stand on it, put his front paws on the footboard and look at us in bed. Tonight he made the connection that he could jump up onto our bed from there, so he scrambled up and there he was! It took him long enough to figure that out. After a few minutes of "hi" and congratulations, down he went. We moved the beanbag farther away, andd made a little nest on the floor. He might be able to get on the bed, but getting down would still be a problem. He might hurt himself jumping off, which he's likely to do given his love of getting airborne.

I was also thinking that the reason Mojo is so long is he's been stretching himself trying to get onto the bed! Maybe he's been there every night, extending himself? It's kind of silly, but hey, you never know.

Earler today we took him downtowh to the rose festival. There's a festival, which booths and dragon boat races. First, though, we went to eat.

On the way to the restaurant, he barfed. Yuck! He apparently gets carsick now. Maybe he's just out of practice, since he's not in the car a lot. The really gross thing is there wasn't really anything to barf into, so I just stuck my hand under his mouth and caught it. Bleah. I cleaned it off with a cleaning cloth, but it's pretty, well, gross.

At the restaurant he was in his bag, and I think he was asleep.

On the way downtown after lunch he barfed again. Luckily we had another cloth, and I put that under his mouth this time.

At the festival he was good. He sniffed a lot, and there was a lot of leash pulling, etc. We met a couple from Georgia who had a Hav back home, which was fun. Then we walked back after watching some of the dragon boat races.

Last stop was petsmart, to pick up some supplies. We got him some round dingos (the mini-dingos were getting too small), some ear powder, and some eye cleaner.

Then in line there was another Hav! It was a big one, with the curly (not straight) hair. How about that? He and Mojo played a bit, and we talked with the owner. That Hav also is darkening a bit (back stripes seem to be a common color). It was also pretty big, taller and longer than Mojo was. So much fo the lengthening idea as above. It was weird, seeing a Hav with poodle hair. I was actually standing in line looking at the dog, thinking "is that a Hav? Or a poodle? The face looks like a Hav, but maybe it's a cockapoo?" I was going to ask, then Mojo came by and started playing, and well, it went from there.

It was really funny seeing two havs play. They do that stand up and paw thing, which I guess is the secret Havanese handshake?

Two Hav owners in one day, a new record! The Hav owner from Georgia said their neighbor has a Hav, and it would break out of its house to come over and play, which is really funny.

Mojo seems to love the round dingo, by the way. Right now he's wandering around trying to find a place to hide it. The first choice, on the green armchair, didn't work so well. Right now he's trying to bury it under the blankets of the other armchair. Wonder why he doesn't try & hide it in his crate, like he did the other dingo?

Oh, just remembered to write that Mojo really doesn't sleep in his crate anymore at all. It might be it's too small, but I think it's just more comfy for him to sprawl out.
